Fiber curl measurement system that measures the natural, relaxed-state curl of an optical fiber using a self-referencing dual-beam laser method.

The CURL500 measures fiber curl with two laser beams held in fixed relation to each other, so one acts as the reference for the other. PFO argues this makes the measurement insensitive to mechanical influences in the rotational and fiber-holding mechanism, unlike microscope image-based methods that need a mechanical reference at each measurement point, and therefore more repeatable and operator-independent. It is positioned as a QA tool for fiber production. No numeric curl radius range, resolution or accuracy is published on the site or in the brochure.
